The Hornets would take a stranglehold on the bestof-five series, though, scoring four power-play goals in the final two periods of Game 2. Em m a Maltais led the way with two goals and two assists while Maddy McArthur earned Oakville's second straight shutout with 13 saves. W in over LB . Pearson sends Sainte-Trinite to first OFSAA basketball tournam ent By Herb Garbutt Oakville Beaver staff Sainte-Trinite coach Matt Stewart says his Oakville high school bas ketball team's biggest strength is team chemistry and its trust of one another on the floor. That would be put to the test in the team's biggest game of the season. Facing Pearson in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic As- sociations A qualifier Feb. 21, les Loups would have to find a w ay to beat the Patriots without Babacar Fall, their starting point guard. Fall scored 32 points in a win over Acton earlier this season, but when he was suspended due to a technical foul in the team 's previ ous game, les Loups had to ad ju st their lineup. Vincent Lalonde stepped in to fill the key role and Sainte-Trinite and Pearson battled back and forth, rarely separated by more than five points. Clinging to a one-point lead, Matthew Grenda hit a free throw with 2.9 seconds left. Sainte-Trinite then intercepted the inbound pass to seal a 62-60 victory. Jacob Aubry led les Loups with 27 points as Sainte-Trinite earned the school's first-ever OFSAA bas ketball berth. "This is the school's first year with Grade 12s so I've had the sam e guys for three years," Stew art said. "That w as their goal three years ago, to go to OFSAA." Playing in Halton's Tier 2 league, Sainte-Trinite won ju st once in its first five gam es but scored wins over Abbey Park and Pearson ju st before the Christm as break. It went on to finish the season 5-6, tops am ong the region's four A schools. Stewart said in order to be suc- cessful, Sainte-Trinite will have to continue to focus on its play with out the ball. "Defence is the key to our suc cess," he said. "We will have to fo cus on rebounding. We don't have a lot of height -- our tallest guy is 6-foot-1 -- so our rebounding technique will be im portant."
