Fo r whatever reason, they have decid ed to go their own way," he said. "W e wish them well. As a board, w e'll still provide all the benefits athletics bring to kids, and I'm sure the same will be true for th em ." A Feb. 7 report to the HCDSB trustees stated that the HCAA will develop a constitution and estab lish by-laws and playing regula tions by April. "We are grateful for the many positive relationships we have formed and the strong collabora tion we have experienced over the past four decades, in partnership with the HSSAA," said HCDSB chair Diane Rabenda. Miller said the boards did share costs such as ice rental, referees and safety training and believes the joint league would have saved money for both boards. "For one thing, we shared a con vener," he said. "We may have got a better deal for rentals. I don't know the exact numbers, but I think it would be reasonable to assume (there were savings)." The HCDSB report said the board would hire a full-time (10-m on th ) athletic convener who will be responsible for the board' s elementary and secondary athletic programs. There are still many questions to be answered, such as the qualifying process for the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships. Currently, the HSSAA champion plays the Ham ilton Catholic champion with the winner representing the Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference (GHAC) at the provincial champi onships. Hornets home tonight after pair of shutouts Less than 2 4 hours after teammate Madison Oakes posted a shutout, Maddy McArthur stopped all 21 shots she faced in the Oakville Hornets' 3 -0 Provincial W om en's Hockey League win in Waterloo on Sunday. McArthur remains undefeated this season, improving to 14-0-3 as she earned her sixth shutout of the season and the 13th of the year for the Hornets. It was the fifth time this season the Hornets had recorded back-to-back shutouts as they extended their shutout streak to 105 minutes. Amy Dobson opened the scor ing in the first period, just as a 5-on-3 power play was about to expire. It remained 1-0 until the final minute of the second period when Em m a Maltais scored, giving her a league-best 54 points, to give the Hornets a two-goal advantage. Lexie Adzija added an insurance marker in the third period with Brooke Jovanovich picking up her second assist of the game. Maltais scored twice and Oakes made 15 saves for her seventh shutout of the season in the Hor nets' 3 -0 win over Aurora on Sat urday. It clinched first place for Oakville. Maddie Sisokin scored the game winner with four minutes to play in the second period. Maltais dou bled the Hornets' lead two minutes later. She added her second of the game three minutes into the third. Sarah Fillier drew assists on both of the Maltais goals. She is second in scoring with 50 points. The Hornets, 2 9 -3 -4 , have two games remaining, both at home. Oakville hosts Barrie tonight (Thursday) at 8 p.m. and Cam bridge Saturday at 3 :3 0 p.m. at Joshua' s Creek Arenas. The Hornets can match their team record of 31 victories in one season (2 0 1 4 -1 5 ) by winning both games. Restructuring may be necessary But the creation of the Halton Catholic league will mean there will be three champions within GHAC vying for the spot at OFSAA. Miller said any scenarios would be speculative but indicated the or ganization may have to be restruc tured. For now, he said there is "a great deal of w ork to be done" in the coming months but he remains op timistic. "Sometimes these things have a way of inspiring people to make it even better," he said. Four Oakville division winners at regional free throw competition Oakville and Burlington sharp shooters battled at the Knights of Columbus Basketball Free Throw district championships at Corpus Christi Secondary School earlier this month.
