During the last school year, more local elementary students were suspended under the board's Safe Schools policy than local high school students. The board issued suspensions to 96 elementary students, primarily for threat ening, harassing, intimidating or assault ing other students. The majority of the incidents took place in the school yard or the classroom. One student was suspended for posses sion of a weapon, while two were sus pended for threatening other students or staff with a weapon. Tpn students were suspended for assaulting, threatening or harassing school personnel. Police were called to deal with six of the elementary school incidents. Only 91 Oakville high school students were suspended under the policy, with the majority of them also receiving punish ment for threatening, harassing or assault ing other students. There were no suspensions among high school students for possession of a weapon or threats with a weapon. Police were called to deal with 14 of the high school incidents.
