The six-year-old Glen Abbey resident, who will enter Grade 2 at Abbey Lane Public School in September, started riding two years ago and competed in his first race last year. .Competing in a full schedule this year on board a KTM 50cc motorcycle, he has remained consistently among the top riders. Last weekend, the provincial championship series, under the auspices of the Canadian Motocross Racing Club.(CMRC), came to an end for the young 4-6 year-old division with the sixth and final stop at RJ Motosport Park, just north of Barrie. Out of the more than two dozen competitors, Hutchison finished fifth in both races, and that was also his overall result in the scries. It qualified him to compete in the nationals Aug. 17-20 in Walton, Ontario, where he is hop ing for a top-10 finish. For those on the internet, check out www.cmrcracing.com. The racing schedule begins in early April and runs through the end of October. A very expensive sports, sponsors are always welcome. Oakville team had a Blast a t U.S. tourney The Oakville Blast U-11AA boys rep soccer team captured the prestigious Brockport soccer tournament oyer the July 22/23 weekend by defeating both the Massachusetts U -ll State champions, the Worcester Juventus, and the New York U -ll State champions, the Rochester Jr. Rhinos. Sponsored by General Foods Canada, the Blast not only had to contend with an age differential, but also had to buck the trend which saw the Rochester Soccer Club dominate every division that it had entered except for the U-l 1 age group. The Thunder enjoyed a wide margin of play through the tournament, with defensive specialists Andrea Haddad, Sarah Tanner, Sarah M angano, C olleen Burnett and Monique Bocchinfuso combining with keepers Julia Carter and Heather Masterson to complete the tournam ent's five games without a single goal against. In preliminary round action, the Thunder defeated the host West Rouge side 4-0. Danielle Kuypers opened the scoring. after which Rebecca Detje struck paydirt w ith.three straight goals. She carried the streak into the next game, scoring the only goal required to get past Erin Mills `B.' The third game set up an opportunity to avenge an earlier season loss to the Belleville team. The Thunder created many scoring chances, but were frustrated around the Belleville net until Julia Carter headed Andrea Haddad's long ball past the Belleville keeper. Sara Da Silva provided an insurance market for the 2-0 win. Oakville earned a berth in the finals by posting a 2-0 win over Erin Mills `A' on the strength of goals by Andrea Haddad and Julia Carter. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME The Thunder clinched the tournament win with a 6-0 game against Whitby, overwhelming the Whitby team with a combi nation of speed and team play, leading to goals by Amber Dalziel, Chelsea Aboud, Rebecca Detje, Julia Carter, and two by Danielle Kuypers. The Oakville Thunder have played in six tournaments this year, reaching the finals in four and earning championship hon ours in three, including an Under 15 event.
