Lindsay Gardner has returned to work at Atelier Salon with two awards under her hat, after completing her apprenticeship at George Brown College. The journey started many, many years ago when she started playing with hair at the ripe young age of five. From that moment on she knew she wanted to be a professional hair styl ist, and set about making it happen. Wanting an early start to her career, she took advantage of a high school co-operative educa tion program, accepting a work placement at a local salon, Images. Upon graduation from high school (with solid experience and big dreams backing her up), Atelier Salon in downtown Oakville hired Lindsay, giving her a mere day or two respite from school. She jumped in head first, absorbing information, experience and tips from seasoned stylists. After working one year at Atelier Salon, she attended a two-month stylist program at George Brown College, then returned to Atelier. After another full year at Atelier, she returned to George Brown for two months to complete the advanced classes, wrapping up the course with a competition. The stylist challenge held at the College was an `Up Do' Competition, where all students compete. Lindsay won third place at that competition, against almost 50 students. The second competition was a Colour Competition, seeing representatives from Schwarzkopf come in to judge the participants. The Colour Competition involves the stylist bringing in a model, and giving them a com plete new look - from hair, to make-up, even the outfit. The judges then evaluate the finished O product, this year award ing Lindsay with first place. Even though her formal training is com plete, the education doesn't stop. Atelier is a firm believer in continuing education, and styl ists are continually attending seminars and workshops to enhance their talent. Lindsay also works on photo-shoots, having just completed one and preparing for the next.
