It's Christmas but two Oakville sisters are celebrating the good their Halloween charity effort has made. Twins Julia and Vanessa Silano ran their fifth annual Care2Share Candy Drive collecting a total of 168 kilograms (or 369 pounds) of post-Halloween donations from Morden Public School, St. Joseph and St. Dominic Catholic elementary schools. Currently in their second year at the University of Toronto, the sisters started their project when trick-or-treating was cancelled one year due to stormy weather and they wondered where all the over abundance of undistributed candy would go. Having learned a little candy can go a long way for those who do not get enough sugar in their daily diet, they started their Care2Share project, encouraging students to donate extra treats to orphanages and missions in impoverished communities.
