Colonel William Parkway, along its whole length, is like a race track. It may be a through road, but more importantly, it is residential and drivers need to slow down. The 40 km/h speed limit outside St. Mary School is a joke; I have been over taken more than once on that stretch of Colonel William as I tried to keep below 40 km/h. Over the years, I have requested that stop signs be placed at the playground on Colonel William, where the pipeline trail crosses the road. It only takes a second or two for a little one to break loose, run down the path and cross the road. The response has been that police presence would be increased. But this produces an artificial finding since the very sight of a police car invariably causes drivers to slow down, and then it is business as usual once the police have gone. Wake up Oakville and set some precedents: 40 km/h is much too fast to be ground throughout Oakville? going past schools and playgrounds, and And, dare I suggest, that Oakville change all the 40 how many drivers even acknowledge or km/h zones to 25 km/h? keep to this limit? Yvonne Mayhew, Oakville Many are simply in too much of a rush to reach their destination. Drivers have to stop behind a school bus with flashing lights, late for work or not. So what is different about children who are walking to school, and who are equally vulnerable? Can we not make some changes for the sake of our children? To start with, how about some well-placed stop signs outside every single school and play- Dr. Arun Narang, D.D.S. Thanksforthe Pud laugh `Pud' We both had a great laugh after reading the Pud cartoon (Dec. 9). The teenaged son did not want to take his Mom's car because it was `decorated' for Christmas with antlers, a red nose and red bow. Our boys would concur this would not be cool to drive and that even the bus would be preferred. Thank you for the chuckle and thanks for returning Pud and Steve Nease's cartoons to the Oakville Beaver.
