That game -- and the imagined stories that came along with it -- would become the ba sis for the now 17-year-old Oakville author' s first self-published book, which was offi cially released Thursday (Dec. 1) at Appleby College' s annual Christmas Trade Show. "I think anyone who' s published a book at any age would feel excited about it, but I think, particularly for me, while I'm still in high school, that' s something I really take pride in," said Albi. "Stories have always been an integral part of my life growing up, and it' s nice to finally be telling one of my own. I'm really happy that I'm sharing my own ideas while I'm still young and able to develop them ." W out and preparing his story. "I began to write, and I think it was when I wrote 50 pages in a week that I realized I should just run with it," he explained. "... By September, the manuscript was done. The motivation ultimately came from me just wanting to make the most of my time while I still had some to spare." A career author? Albi noted if his first book is a success, mak ing a career of being an author is something he'd like to pursue -- well after attending uni versity and securing a business degree. The Legend o f Three is meant to be a series, he explained, one story in a massive world, rich with lore. "I would love for this to expand," he said. "... I'm actually working on the next project in the series now, which is going to be a featurette on one of the characters introduced in B ook One --Ascension. "I want to write more stories, and I know everyone will love the world of Shipri I'm building with The Legend of Three, but the only way to keep it going is through everyone spreading the word, and reading these tales," he added. W hen I tried putting it down to paper, I hated my own writing, so I just left it. I re visited the idea of writing once again when I was 15, but I once again was unhappy with my writing, so I trashed it," he said. "I think what finally pushed me over the edge... was when I sat myself down before the beginning of this summer and thought, `this is my last summer before I have to worry about univer sity. W hat do I want to do with it?'" It was then his thoughts ran back to his book, noted Albi, when he began mapping f f The Legend of Three, Booh One -- Ascension is the beginning of Albi' s series and takes place in a fictional land called Shipri where a boy named Arda mysteriously washes onto shore without his memory. Arda is armed with the Emberheart, an an cient relic and lost family heirloom of a king who begins to work to recover what he be lieves is rightfully his.
