Residents are invited to In Conversation With... Charlotte Gray at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts (OCPA) from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Charlotte Gray Willson Auditorium. Tickets cost $20. Gray is the author of several award-winning, best-selling works of literary non-fiction that depict the lives of Canadian figures, such as Isabel Mackenzie King, Susanna Moodie, Nellie McClung, Pauline Johnson, Alexander Graham Bell and more. She also portrayed some of the country's most defining moments in her book, Canada: A Portrait in Letters. The Promise of Canada, 150 Years: People and Ideas That Have Shaped Our Country weaves together portraits of nine different Canadians to paint a picture of what makes Canada so unique, resilient and special, according to an Oakville Public Library media release. "As publisher Simon & Schuster puts it, Charlotte has the incredible capacity to make our past come alive and open doors into our present and future," the release states. Gray's visit is an instalment of the In Conversation With... series put on by the Oakville Public Library, OCPA and A Different Drummer Books. The OCPA is located at 130 Navy St. Five Sheridan College almuni have ties to Disney's newest animation, Moana, which arrives in theatres Wednesday (Nov. 23). | Disney photo Sheridan alumni showcase skills in Moana Five former students from Sheridan College's Oakville campus have ties to the new Walt Disney Animation Studios film Moana. The animated movie tells the tale of an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people, and meets a once-mighty demigod on her journey who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Moana character animator David Stodolny, originally from Brampton, graduated from Sheridan and has been with Walt Disney Animation Studios for six months. Zootopia was his first film at Disney Animation. Doug Bennett was an animator on the film. From Toronto, Bennett attended Sheridan and has worked on Chicken Little, Wreck it Ralph, Big Hero 6, and was the head of animation on Bolt. Toronto's Geoff Wheeler was also an animator for Moana and has been with Disney Animation for three years. He has worked on Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Frozen and Wreck-itRalph. Moana lighting supervisor Gregory Culp is originally from St. Catharines and worked with the lighting director to establish initial colour and lighting in a sequence. He has also worked on Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Feast, Frozen and Tangled. Zubin Wadia was an effects animator on Moana. Originally from Toronto and Mumbai, India, Wadia has been with Walt Disney Animation Studios for five years. Moana hits theatres Wednesday (Nov. 23). To celebrate the works of its alumni, Sheridan is hosting an exclusive film screening of Moana at Film.Ca Cinemas, 171 Speers Rd., unit 25, on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. The event is free to attend, however, advanced registration is needed to reserve a seat.
