"It's a good group of guys. The chemistry worked well and we came together outside the court, too," said Aquinas captain Thomas DaSilva. "We wanted to play for each other. We had a lot of good times and we didn't want it to end." Though most of the Raiders returned this season, they did have some key positions to fill. Aquinas lost four-time volleyball MVP setter Jordan Figueira (now at the University of Toronto) to graduation but Jay Walden stepped into the role to keep the Raider offence rolling while libero Ben Pace solidified the team's defence. "We saw pretty early that the losses weren't going to affect us," Camastro said. The trio of Jigme Gyanatsang, Walden and Patrick Aldridge contributed to a vast- ly better game at the net. "Blocking was a huge weakness, but every practice we worked heavily on it," Camastro said. "It wasn't as good as it was last week and against a team like Georgetown you need to be at your best." Aquinas came into the playoffs having won four straight matches, including some close decisions that prepared them for an extended run. After the three-set win over Georgetown, the Raiders closed the regular season by edging Loyola 31-29, 25-23. Aquinas then beat Blakelock 25-20-17-25, 15-13 in the quarter-finals. The Raiders faced the daunting task of beating Georgetown again to advance to the Halton final for the second year in a row. "I think a lot of it was psychological," Camastro said. "They put a lot of pressure on themselves because they wanted it so badly." BHYC's junior race team open house on Saturday The Bronte Harbour Yacht Club's junior race team is holding an open house on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 1-4 p.m. Prospective members and their parents will learn about how much fun the sport can be, as well as the many benefits of learning to sail and race. Special guest Brenda Bowskill, a Canadian Olympic and Pan Am competitor, will share her story of learning to sail and compete internationally. Bowskill competed in Rio earlier this year and at last year's Pan Am Games in Toronto.
