On Nov. 2, the PCOO celebrated its 20th anniversary at a special gathering at the Oakville Club, where it holds its regular meetings. PCOO, one of three local Probus Clubs, promotes fellowship through get-togethers of retired individuals who value opportunities to meet others with similar interests. "The Probus Club of Old Oakville survives and thrives due to one reason each member's commitment and support. A club is only as strong as its individual parts and that is you," said Dave Hutchison, past president (2010-11). "By participating in club events, volunteering, attending meetings, introducing guests and sponsoring new members, you have continued to make our club prosper." Founded in 1996 as the 70th Probus Club in Canada, with sponsorship from the Rotary Club of Oakville, the PCOO held its inaugural meeting in November that year at St. Jude's Anglican Church, with Gordon Mylet as the first president. see Protocols on p.29 Probus Canada Secretary Bob Boone, left, congratulates Probus of Old Oakville retired businessmen's and professionals' club vice-president John Williams, as the club marks its 20th anniversary. | Michael Ivanin photo Halton Region is planning to replace a wastewater main on Water Street, William Street and Navy Street and a watermain on Water Street and Robinson Street in the Town of Oakville.
