Oakville field lacrosse trio on Canadian Crusaders celebrate successful junior rugby season team playing exhibition games in Denver Oakville's Bryan Cole, Chris Corbeil and Brennan Donville are among the players who will represent Canada next week in a pair of field lacrosse exhibition games in Denver. Donville is one of seven players on the roster who won gold with Canada at the 2014 FIL Men's World Lacrosse Championship. He was called into action in the gold-medal game against the United States after starting goalie Dillon Ward was injured and held the fort until the tournament MVP was able to return. Corbeil has won two Champions Cups with the Saskatchewan Rush of the National Lacrosse League, earning a nomination as the league's best defensive player each year. Cole was recently drafted fourth overall by the Georgia Swarm in the NLL draft, following a collegiate career that saw him help the Maryland Terrapins twice reach the NCAA title game. The Canadian team will play against the University of Denver Oct. 22 and the United States Air Force Academy Oct. 23. The games will serve as the start of the selection process for the team that will represent Canada at the 2018 world championships. The U14s won the Ontario Festival championship and the Q-META Cup, the U16s were Tru Plate champions and, for the fourth year in a row, Q-META Cup winners. All of the junior teams celebrated their success with family and friends earlier this month with skills competitions, burgers and drinks, and award presentations following the friendly competitions. Oakville's Brendan Taylor on Steelheads' coaching staff Former Ontario Hockey League player Brendan Taylor of Oakville has joined the coaching staff of the Mississauga Steelheads this season. Taylor, who played for Peterborough, Belleville and Saginaw for three seasons a decade ago, is the team's video coach. He was an assistant coach with the Ontario Junior Hockey League Oakville Blades the past two seasons. Taylor's job includes preparing pre-game video sessions, individual player development material and assisting head coach James Richmond. "The Steelheads coaching staff are happy to add Brendan into the fold," Richmond said on the Steelheads' website. "He is a young up-and-coming coach who has a keen eye for the game." Taylor also found the time the past two seasons to help Oakville rep teams and was named a coach for the OHL under-16 Gold Cup in May. His on-ice career included playing for the Blades as a 16-year-old and minor league stops in Halifax, Augusta and Knoxville among other cities before he finished playing in 2012-13.
