Pro-life group Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform was there to bring its anti-abortion message to the school population. Showing graphic imagery, volunteers with the pro-life group also engaged the student population in discussion about abortion. Mary Preece, provost and vice-president academic at Sheridan, issued an email earlier that morning notifying staff and students of the anti-abortion demonstration. Signs were also posted around the school to warn community members and attached to Preece's email was a map of where CCBR was expected to conduct what it called an "outreach" event. "They have committed to `not disturb classes or hinder the operation of the college' and to `stand on campus and peacefully express ourselves'," she wrote. "Sheridan is committed to being an organization that fosters inquiry, welcomes diverse opinions and values dialogue and debate," she wrote. "Sheridan supports students, employees and other groups in sharing their views on different subjects, including those that may be considered to be uncomfortable or controversial to some, when such expression is done in a safe and respectful manner and does not promote hatred or obscenities." Preece's email also detailed counselling services available to those who may find the CCBR's materials upsetting. In July 2015, many Oakville residents cried foul after receiving graphic anti-abortion flyers at their doors. At that time, Jonathon Van Maren, communications director for the pro-life group Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CCBR), said the flyers were the work of the #NO2Trudeau campaign, which was created in partnership by the CCBR and a second pro-life group called the Campaign Life Coalition.
