You just wait for your time in the queue. Next thing you know, you're on a stretcher in the back of an ambulance or a transport vehicle, then you're into your room and here we are," said Laughlin. "It was like a symphony. Everything just came together." Laughlin said the larger rooms at the new OTMH allowed for him to begin learning to walk again. He also called the facility's gym amazing, stating it gave him the ability to work on some strength training with his legs. "The hospital itself is a very positive place to be. The framework, the artwork, the flow does not make you feel like you are institutionalized," he said. "The mental game in healing is strong and I think with this new facility, the mental game gets stronger. You know you are getting well and you can stay positive." The report also discussed the $512 million Milton District Hospital expansion, now well underway. When complete in 2017, the hospital will have grown three times its current size. This expansion will result in a new patientfocused triage and registration processes, greater emergency department space to accommodate short-term treatment and observation for children and a larger diagnostic imaging department that will house a new MRI scanner. Maternal newborn care will also receive a dedicated operating room for planned and emergency caesarean sections and a special care nursery. Georgetown Hospital had its own successes during 2015-16. Halton Healthcare handled 3,145 births, 37,352 surgical procedures and 232,158 diagnostic exams. The report also discussed Halton Healthcare's strategic plan -- Pathway 2020. The plan outlines what Halton Healthcare is hoping to achieve during the next four years. Some of these plans include serving as a "gateway hospital" through which new models of care, leading practices, specialized services, and technology can be assessed, adopted, adapted and accessed for patients and the community hospital sector. The health-care service says it will also pursue purposeful partnerships and collaborations that improve the patient experience and the overall performance of the broader health system. It also says it will work to enable its staff and volunteers to address the unique and diverse needs of the Halton community.
