Many candi dates report failing some courses at least once before they finally succeed. The Sheridan School of Business hopes to make it easier for candidates to qual ify for a securities career by offering a 28-week fast-track post-graduate program in financial planning starting in September. Preparation for the Canadian Securities Institute's course examina tions will be only part of a broad-based curriculum aimed at training a new gen eration of financial planning professionals. "Taking the securities and financial planning courses in a day-school environment as opposed to self-directed home study results in a much higher success rate," Henry Katz, Program CoCoordinator, Financial Planning Post-graduate Program, Sheridan School of Business said. "Our professors provide as much problem-solving as possible, and the interaction with fellow students allow candidates to be much better prepared for the examina tions, with a greater level of confidence. We have select ed professors who have extensive experience in the marketplace, many of whom are licensed and operating a financial planning/invest ment counselling practice," Katz said. The program is aimed at all ages, but Sheridan ; requires a student to be a college or university busi ness graduate or to have ! completed a related disci pline. "We anticipate that many of our graduates will be in their mid- to late 20's by the time they have met the expe rience requirements in the industry, which is a most desirable age to begin work in the securities field," Stuart Munro, Associate Dean, Sheridan School of Business said.
