More than 30K visitors head to Oakville's ribfest at Sheridan College Families turned out in droves for The Cooperator's Oakville Family Ribfest over the weekend. While the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar is still tallying how much was raised for local charities, event chair Trish Peden said organizers are calling ribfest a huge success with more than 30,000 visitors at Sheridan College's Trafalgar Road campus over three days. She credits "flawless" weather, great live entertainment and family-friendly attractions for how well it was received by the community. It was a pleasure to see people digging into ribs and getting into the spirit of event. "We just loved watching their reactions," she said, describing how a couple of elderly gentlemen would get up in front of the stage to bust a move to the music. "There was one gentleman who came out every single day and stood in front of the stage and danced," Peden added. "Oakville is amazing that way. They don't hesitate to get up and dance to the music and it was a joy to see." The annual event, which completed its fifth year, featured nine ribbers, a dozen other food vendors, live entertainment and a host of family-friendly activities, including a midway with a Ferris wheel and bumper cars. As is tradition, attendees were encouraged to vote for the best-tasting ribs and the best sauce. Reigning champion Kentucky Smokehouse, who took home the Best Ribs trophy for the past three years, was dethroned by newcomer Ribs Royale -- who took both the Best Ribs and Best Sauce trophies. Coming in second in both categories was Boss Hog's. Kentucky Smokehouse placed third in both categories. Peden said overall, it was a great time having everyone gather for a good time in support of community charities.
