Oakville Ballet dancers shape up for premier performances at Centre for Performing Arts More than 40 young dancers have begun rehearsals for the Oakville Ballet's premier performances in September. The dancers, aged 12-17, are under the guidance of Amanda Paterson, artistic director and ballet master, and Ciprian Campianu. Marius Petipa choreographed La Bayadère, Kingdom of the Shades (1877) -- the ballet is famous for the entrance of the `Shades', where the corps de ballet perform a series of arabesques while descending a ramp. "Adding to the celebration of talent, technical ability, and joyous determination of the young dancers will be the colourful rhythmical scores of Ludwig Minkus led by Oakville Ballet orchestra's Judith Yan," stated a media release. More than 60 participants raised funds to provide 50 young girls living in extreme poverty with clothing and another 50 teenage girls with special packs filled with school supplies, hygiene products and books.
