"A lawyer in Toronto has also started a similar program, and has had space donated at Yorkdale." `T his is a real win-win program," continued Walter, "another example of women helping women. "This centre has been helping women for 11 years, and this is just one more program that fits in with what we're doing." The ClothingW orks volunteers belong to a hiking group, and came up with their proposal "while on a walk through the woods in January," said Gareau. The foursome has found rent-free space at Necessities, an esthetics busi ness owned by Anne Marie Blouin and Lisa Rea. Located at 74 Rebecca St., it is accessible by bus. Volunteer consultants will assist the client in selecting and fitting suitable clothirig. All fittings will be by appoint ment only, and confidential. The clients keep the clothes, which are provided at no charge. The Oakville Salvation Army had provided space, on a temporary basis, to launch the program. It has also donated some clothing. "It's an ideal program for us," con tinued Walter, "because the majority of women we see are going through sepa ration and divorce." ClothingWorks is for "ambitious women who are making the effort to get back into the workplace and improving their lot," added Farrow. "We see this program as a hand up, not a hand out," said Logan. Farrow, a job search skills instructor at Sheridan College, said "some of my students were not prepared to go to an interview because they didn't have appropriate clothing. Quite often, the teachers would donate outfits to these students." "All clothing donated to ClothingWorks must be good condi tion, cleaned and on hangers, ready-towear business attire," said Drinkwalter, a former owner of a ladies fashion out let (Barwich House) in downtown Oakville. Donations o f w om en's business clothing, in all sizes, will be welcomed Donated clothing can include pants, blouses, skirts, jackets, tailored suits, dresses, scarves, belts, jewelry, good wearable fashionable shoes, new unopened cosmetics, new unopened pantyhose, coats and handbags. Undergarments, used cosmetics, used pantyhose, m en's clothing and athletic clothing will not be accepted. Women's organizations and service clubs, and businesses, can get involved by participating in ClothingW orks `Rack'n Roll.' A rack will be brought to a meeting location or office, where donors can fill it with donated clothing. Cash donations will also be accepted. Donors are asked to call ClothingWorks at 847-5488.
