Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms wear out! Did you know most fatal fires occur at night when people are sleeping? That's why it's so important to replace smoke alarms before they reach their 10-year expiry date. Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms should also be replaced according to the manufacturer's instructions. Oakville fire crews will be knocking on doors across town as part of the Home Awareness Program from May 24 to July 31, 2016. This year crews will target homes that are 10 to 12 years old to educate homeowners about the importance of replacing smoke and CO alarms before they expire. It's the law for all Ontario homes to have working smoke and CO alarms. Don't put your safety at risk. Check your alarms, and replace them before they wear out.
