Burns said Django, a four-year-old Rottweiler/ Lab mix, was playing with Burns' other dog, Mojo, near Lake Ontario just off of Brookfield Road when he yelped and came limping back. "It just happened so fast. The two of them were running around playing and next thing you know, I look down and he's gushing blood from his paw," said Burns, 32. "It was really bad. I've never seen so much blood." Panicked, Burns rushed home to drop off Mojo, a Shar-Pei/pug mix, before carrying Django and walking to an animal hospital a few blocks away. Django was admitted, put on an IV and underwent a two-hour surgery at a cost of nearly $1,000, said Burns. He's now recovering from the ordeal with several stitches. Burns said he's thankful it wasn't anything more serious, but is hesitant to return to the area. "I've been taking the dogs down there every day over for the last couple of years," he said, noting nothing like this had ever happened. With snow on the ground, he said he wasn't sure what Django could have stepped on, but suspects it could have been broken glass. He's warning other residents to be careful. NEW!
