Premier cuts ribbon at new OTMH opening Dec. 13 by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff | photo by Riziero Vertolli Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @halton_photog or facebook.com/HaltonPhotog) Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne took a tour of the new Oakville hospital Tuesday evening, before participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $2.7-billion facility, which opens to patients Dec. 13. Wynne toured the new hospital's emergency department and also examined one of its stateof-the-art nurses' stations and an inpatient room. The premier shared her impressions of the hospital during a speech before more than 200 people gathered in the facility's main lobby as the ceremony kicked off. "This is an innovative facility. It is not simply a replacement of something that went before," she said. "What went before was a dream, too. On the opening day of the former hospital, people were just as excited as we are today, but we now have a facility that will meet the needs of people today and well into the future." Wynne praised the existing Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), noting as the years have passed, it has grown and evolved with the town and built an impressive legacy of service. The new hospital, said Wynne, would take the next step in enhancing health care in the community. The facility, which will bear the name OTMH once that hospital closes on Dec. 13, will feature up to 457 inpatient beds on opening day. This represents an increase of 135 beds from the current hospital. see New on p.3 High quality wood & vinyl shutters 905.691.4455 www.shuttersetc.ca WINNER OF BEST WINDOW COVERING & BLIND CENTRE SINCE 2006 SHUTTERS ETC.
