The pair took part in the 2015 Oxford Cup Debating Championship held at Western Canada High School in Calgary, Alta., Nov. 13-15. They placed first in a field of 60 teams from across Canada after an intense tournament that gave them 15 minutes to prepare before each debate round. In the semifinals Hassan, a Grade 12 student, and Metropolitansky, a Grade 10 student, debated about permitting the free movement of labour around the world. In the finals, they debated about permitting in-vitro fertilization to genetically modify babies, assuming technology is available and the procedure is safe. The recent win earned the pair one of two spots given to Canadian high schools to debate at Oxford University in England during March Break 2016.
