In order to gain the length, 15 inches (381 mm) was added to the wheelbase of the truck to increase the gross vehicle weight rating ( G V W R ) by 100 kg and giving the automatic transmission version the ability to tow 2,269 kg or 5,000 lbs. The Frontier Crew Cab Long beds are available in XE, SE, and SC trim levels and in 4X2 and 4X4 drive. A five-speed manual transmission is available on the XE while the SE and SC are only offered with a four-speed electronic automatic. The Long Beds both rely on Nissan's tired-andtrue 3.3-litre V6 that gives 170 hp and 200 lb/ft of torque in the XE and SE, while the supercharged (or SC) V6 offers 210- hp and 246 lb/ft of torque. This is accomplished by a Roots-style blower developed in conjunction with the Eaton Corporation and fully warranted by Nissan. Frontier made big news, and a big impression, last year when it debuted with much more rugged looks inspired by the success of the Xterra SUV. Adding what Nissan calls its "industrial" looks, the interior for 2002 has been redesigned with new instrument panel with "cockpit style" round gauges. The SC comes with charcoal leather seats with SC logo embroidered in red along with red stitching. The Rockford Fosgate sound system features a six-disc CD changer, nine speakers and 400 watts of power. Supercharged Frontiers also come with 17-inch alloy wheels, big P265/17-inch tires, titanium coloured gauges and a slightly stiffer sports tuned suspension.
