Over the last year, they've been getting their hands dirty creating an outdoor space for the school community to learn, play and grow. Earlier this fall, students, teachers, parents and special guests gathered in the garden to celebrate the fruits of their labour. They showcased their tulip bed, a butterfly garden with milkweed and nectar plants, five trees, 12 raised bed gardens and a shaded area. Students from the school's Outdoor Adventure Kids Club shared with guests how they made their very own organic soil, mixing earth, vermiculite and compost. They boasted about the fresh vegetables they've been able to harvest and the outdoor space that has attracted monarch butterflies and other tiny critters. One student said the garden's Three Sisters bed -- growing corn, beans and squash -- was her favourite place. "According to Iroquois legend, corn, beans and squash are three inseparable sisters who grow together and help each other," she said.
