The local trio earned spots in the elite series -- which features some of the best skaters from across eastern Canada -- with strong performances at a Quebec espoir series meet last weekend in Riviere du Loup, Que. This year marks the first time OSSC has sent three skaters to compete in a Quebec elite series meet. The Oakville club also sent 12 skaters to a pre-season provincial series meet and 25 more to a western regional meet last weekend. Both competitions were held in Kitchener-Waterloo. Oakville's top performers at the provincial series meet were Alex Giannotti, who earned bronze, and Megan Keenan, who finished sixth. OSSC had 10 medallists at the regional meet, including Emma Borca (gold); Daniel Giannotti, Izabella Zakatsiolo, Charlie Cotton, Hudson Strople and Liz Lee (silver); and Cyprien Petiteville, Helios He, Connor Waters and Noah Waters (bronze). Blades split weekend pair The Oakville Blades bounced back from a last-minute loss the previous night to blank the North York Rangers 5-0 Sunday in Ontario Junior Hockey League action. Brendan McGlynn made 27 saves to record the shutout for the visiting Blades, who got goals Sports Briefs from Ian Blacker, Ryan Foss, Josh Kosack, Tyler Rollo and Oliver Benwell.
