The local musician's latest album Midnight Rhumba was nominated in the U.K.-based One World Music Radio (OWMR) Awards, which aired Sunday. Linstead picked up the People's Choice and Best World Album awards. "Yay! I just won Best World Album for Midnight Rhumba in the OWMR Awards out of the U.K.! That makes two awards. Thank you Steve N Chrissie Owm -- I love you guys!" Linstead wrote on his Facebook page Sunday. "Thanks everyone that voted for me." Linstead and his bandmates, Geoff Hlibka (guitar), Jordan Abraham (accordion) and Anastasios Bigas (drums), continually return to Oakville for performances at local spots. The group recently performed at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts earlier this year in January. Midnight Rhumba was released in 2014 and also reached the No. 10 spot on the U.S. Billboard charts in the New Age category. The album features 11 tracks of Linstead's award-winning Spanish guitar, accented with the Gypsy violin, played by Vasyl Popadiuk, as well as an accordion, piano and Latin percussion. "The various rhythms on the album are reminiscent of Spain, Italy, the Caribbean and Argentina, making Midnight Rhumba a welcomed journey away to warmer climates," according to Linstead. "Their playing showed a great deal of musical maturity. These two selections are professional arrangements and require some real technical ability from all the performers.
