Entertainers at Westminster Hospital Court in the act ... I never thought I would have an item for Ripley's "Believe It or Not" column, but when I heard that our president had agreed to bring home some snappy golf shoes from Florida for big Jake Gardner, and they turned out to be both for the left foot, I figured that story was indeed unusual. Who was the Blue Streak that ran from the entertainers table to the ladies' john Saturday night? My wife always runs away from that room. (Inside joke.) You're the odd apple from the barrel, eh, McIntosh? Before we are accused of writing the same names in the paper every month, we have made up a bit of unsung heroes in the Legion who really do their bit, but few of our' newer members would realize that Nellie McCulligh has been writing our adopted patients in Westminster Hospital for close to 15 years, not mentioning a parcel every month. That's one unsung hero. Others are the very cooperative, good-natured Nick Stephaniuk behind the bar; he never refuses a request. Marg Overland.always on call to help at bingo at very short notice; Ivy MacDonald, on call for all the banquets after working her own full day; Tommy Reader, who has worked quietly on the bingo for several years; imaginative Jimmy Hopson, who organizes many functions for the Legion, then steps down for someone else to run; Grace Claus, who "never" refuses to come out and work; Bessie Exley, who always helps in the kitchen; Chick Meldrum, who took on the President's Dinner catering at the last minute; Madeleine Foster, who is always available as a waitress after doing the same all day; Joe Gorman, who has two irons in the fire: Euchre and Draw Tickets; Jimmy Highfield, who seems to be always helping on the bars; Myrt Landry, who has been supplying our canteen with sandwiches at her own expense for some time now; George Robinson and Davie Nairn, who fill in so many empty places at the hall; Rita Murphy, who comes from Hamilton to entertain sOJl1e Saturdays; and my old behindthe-scenes friend, Syd Patterson. They are in the background, but they are there. I know that I have missed some . . . why not let me know some of their names?
