www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, May 1, 2015 | 38 Celebration recognized volunteers' work at OPNC and CYAN The work of staff and volunteers at two Oakville non-profit organizations was recently celebrated in town. The Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre (OPNC) and Community Youth in Action Network (CYAN) hosted a fundraiser and volunteer appreciation event April 18, which coincided with the Oak Park centre's 15th anniversary. "We are grateful for our volunteers, funders and agency partners like CYAN who allow us to ensure that north Oakville is a place where people are supported, connected and contributing so that we are able to build a healthy community," said Michelle Knoll, executive director of the Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre. The local centre -- which offers multicultural programs, a food bank, community garden, and support for families with disabilities, to name a few of its offerings -- was also celebrating the recent renovation of its second floor to better accommodate the needs of community youths. The Loft renovation was a result of an $87,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), as well as support from Oakville Community Foundation's De Maio Fund, Halton Region, Habitat for Humanity and Home Depot. In addition, CYAN was the recent recipient of a two-year, $108,100 OTF grant to support the development of additional programming, community outreach initiatives and partnerships as well as enhance overall organizational capacity, according to the media release. CYAN, which is supported by funding from United Way Oakville and Oakville Community Foundation, offers programming to engage youths in volunteerism, skill building, initiatives and civic leadership. Town and Regional Councillor Jeff Knoll, Mark Emmanuel of the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Halton MPP Indira Naidoo-Harris were present at the event to celebrate the two local agencies. "These Ontario Trillium Foundation grants have been put to great use by both the Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre and the Community Youth in Action Network," said Naidoo-Harris. Ready to buy a New Car?
