Fred was the keynote speaker at Oakville's fourth annual Team Up For Terry Fox kick-off breakfast held at Town Hall Friday. Oakville Terry Fox Run chair, and Ward 2 Town Councillor, Pam Damoff announced just shy of $2 million has been raised locally, to date. "Last year, we broke all the records. We raised $132,000," said Damoff. "Our money is raised by people like you, and friends, family and colleagues who donate $10, $20, $1, $100, all small donations... so, to raise $132,000 through non-corporate donations is truly incredible." For this year's goal, Damoff echoed a request made by Terry 35 years ago. "Terry asked for something simple. He asked for $1 from every Canadian... our goal for Oakville is incredibly simple: $1 from every resident," said Damoff, announcing the 2015 goal for Oakville would be $187,300. Fred praised the community for its efforts in fundraising for cancer research and the accomplishments of the individuals and teams that take part in the annual run. "Terry set an example for so many of us to accomplish what we need to accomplish and the team events here, all the teams involved, set an example to what can happen in other Terry Fox community events, not just here in Ontario, but right across the country," he said. Fred also thanked Oakville for dedicating a day to his brother.
