www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, April 23, 2015 | 12 Municipalities and CN at odds over proposed intermodal terminal by Rachael Williams Metroland West Media The Canadian National Railway company says it's playing by the rules and being a good neighbour when it comes to the proposed intermodal terminal destined for rural Milton. After five municipalities issued a formal response to CN's project description for the logistics hub filed with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA), the railway company has responded by saying the document was complete in scope and adequate for publication. "CN's project description for its Milton Logistics Hub was reviewed by the CEAA before its publication and accepted as sufficiently complete," said Mark Hallman, CN's director of communications/public affairs, Monday. The project description was submitted to the CEAA to determine if an environmental assessment (EA) is required. The municipalities of Milton, Oakville Halton Hills and Burlington ,and Halton Region, allege CN has filed incomplete information in its project description, misrepresented environmental impacts, failed to identify all possible federal approvals and improperly demonstrated how the project is exempt from the Canada Transportation Act. Hallman said CN has been accountable and transparent every step of the way and that the railway company is looking forward to engaging with Halton, Milton and their residents to find constructive solutions to concerns they may have. The Town and the Region encourage residents to review CN's project description and provide comments through CEAA's website before April 27. After that date, CEAA will review feedback and determine whether this project will require a full environmental assessment. The proposed 400-acre intermodal terminal would be located on lands bordered by Tremaine Road to the west, Britannia Road to the north and Lower Base Line to the south. It would operate 24/7 and see an additional 1,500 trucks and four trains coming in and out of Milton per day. CN plans to build an intermodal terminal on this area of Tremaine Road, just south of Britannia Road. | photo by Steve LeBlanc Metroland West Media Certified Auto Glass Technicians with 22 years of experience All windshield, door & back glass in stock We pay up to 100% of insurance Deductible · We deal directly with your Insurance Company · Life time Warranty against leaks · Stone chip repairs · Free Mobile Service · Free Pickup & Drop OFF d rs n this a Mentio dshield wipe in w ls e e d e o r tF dm and ge s to most make an Applie 281 Speers Road Oakville ON 905.339.0339 1.855.339.0339 www.speersautoglass.ca W ay th El iza cr of t Ke be Rd rr en St Qu e rv Sp e er s al Dr Ro ad Do W ye .
