"Honestly, I put my head down, pretty much closed my eyes and hoped for the best." The series-deciding play took a bit more skill than that. Garvey received a pass from Abbey Park high school buddy Jackson Bales, toe-dragged the puck towards himself to create space and fired a hard wrister from the high slot that caught the far post and glanced into the net. "I've had a couple of goals (in minor hockey) that were close to this, but nothing as big," Garvey said. "I played here last year and we didn't make the playoffs. It's a huge goal, my biggest goal." It also completed the third-seeded Blades' rally from a 3-1 series deficit against sixthranked Orangeville, and gave Oakville its first playoff series win since 2012. "Our older guys showed unbelievable leadership," said rookie forward Bales, who scored the Blades' first goal Monday and added two assists. "I can say personally for those last three games that I didn't think of it as if we lost, we were going home. We had to get one at a time instead of three. Our mentality was really good, and our leaders made sure to keep us all calm." Brandon Hughes and Josh Kosack also tallied Monday for the Blades, scoring 12 seconds apart early in the second period to give Oakville a 3-1 lead. Orangeville's Ian Nichols scored midway through the second period to make the score 3-2, and the Flyers tied the game five minutes into the third on Darren Nesbitt's breakaway marker. Colin Rigney scored the Flyers' other goal in the first period, tying the score 1-1. Oakville will face the defending OJHL champion Toronto Patriots -- a team Blades head coach Mike Tarantino managed last season -- in the South/West Conference semifinal, which begins Saturday in Toronto.
