Councillors at Monday's council meeting asked staff to organize public consultation on alternatives. The proposal, tabled by Ward 2 Councillor Cathy Duddeck, was submitted in part, she said, because of a Halton Regional Council decision in November to prohibit election signs on regional road rights-of-way. After hearing from several delegates, many supportive of restrictions on elections signs instead of an outright ban of them on public property, council voted 12-1 to send the issue back to staff for further consideration. Duddeck told the Oakville Beaver, that after hearing from delegations, she had become concerned that several residents appearing before council thought their democratic rights were at risk of being violated. see Public on p.16 At the Oakville Municipal Greenhouses on Cornwall Road, greenhouse operator Galina Tchouprikova prunes a potted kalanchoe plant, while an Agave plant is seen in the foreground. It is also known as a Century plant, as some take up to 80 years to ower. The greenhouses are open to the public and offer a lush land- scape against a record-cold February outside.
