Graham Paine · Oakville Beaver just to cheer: all to prove they were the best women's soccer club in Ontario. And prove it they did. The Oakville women's soccer team stole the wind from beneath the wings of the South Nepean United Iron Eagles to win the Ontario Cup championship in Vaughan on Sunday night. "It was a great game today, a little nerve racking, my nails are gone. I mean the score tells you how close the game was," said coach Billy McKenna. Oakville won 3-2 with the winning goal scored by veteran Michelle Houchen. The star forward kept the team inspired the entire game, as both her skilled play and vocal encourage ment on the field were tireless. "We played from the heart tonight. Everyone gave 110 per cent," Houchen said. Houchen also scored Oakville's first goal, shelving the ball at the six-minute mark of the first half. Houchen took pride, however, in more than her twogoal performance. "I've coached some of these girls that I've played with tonight so it is also a great accomplishment for me to be playing with them. It has just been a thrill all around." One of those young players is 16year old Robyn Gayle o f Mississauga. Gayle scored the tying goal in the sec ond half when she launched a shot from mid-field that flew over the goaitender's head. "I'm very excited, happy to win.
