It took Nazaneen's family 3 1/2 months to safely reach the city of Peshawar in Pakistan," where they lived as refugees. "Thousands of other people were also fleeing their homes. Many of them never made it to safety." Then a young teacher, Majeed convinced the parents of refugee children to school at her parents' rented house, and pur chased her own school supplies. "Before long, over 100 stu dents were coming to her father's house and Nazaneen got her sis ter to help teach the children. Many Afghan families stayed in the refugee tent camps, some left for other countries, including Canada. Nazaneen, with the help of some generous people in Europe, went back to Afghanistan and built a small four-room school.
