Hornets' PWHL unbeaten streak ends at 22 Nearly three months after the Provincial Women's Hockey League season began, the Oakville Hornets finally got their first taste of defeat. Oakville lost 6-2 to the second-place Whitby Wolves Saturday at Joshua's Creek Arenas, snapping the Hornets' 22-game unbeaten streak (20-0-2) to start the PWHL campaign. Christina Putigna and Loren Gabel scored in a losing cause for the Hornets. Daniela Paniccia and Nikki Cece split time in net for Oakville. Blades sweep Mississauga, lose in Kingston The Oakville Blades scored before the game was five minutes old, then allowed five unanswered goals by the host Kingston Voyageurs to drop a 5-1 decision Sunday afternoon in Ontario Junior Hockey League play. Kamil Tkaczuk provided the Blades' marker 4:44 into the first period. Oakville outshot Kingston 34-27. Daniel Manella took the loss in net for the Blades, who had a fourgame winning streak snapped. Oakville began the weekend by sweeping a home-and-home series with the Mississauga Chargers, winning 8-3 Friday in Oakville and 7-0 Saturday in Mississauga. Ross Sloan had four assists and eight different players scored Friday. Brendan McGlynn earned a 17-save shutout while Greg Campbell and Josh Kosack each tallied twice Saturday. Oakville (21-12-2-1) will be home to Georgetown Friday (7:30 p.m. at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex). The Blades will then visit the North York Rangers Sunday, Oakville's final action before the Christmas break. OGC tumblers top Canadians at world meets Three Oakville Gymnastics Club tumblers were the top Canadians in their category at the world and world age-group trampoline and tumbling championships recently in Daytona Beach, Fla. Michael Chaves made his world championship debut with an 11th-place finish in the senior men's division. His total of 70.2 points fell just 0.8 points short of advancing to the final. In the world age-group championships, Rylee Davison reached the final of the 1314 competition, placing eighth, and Haven Swarts came 10th in the 15-16 division. OGC's Don Holmes was Team Canada's coach at the world championships and worked as a personal coach at the agegroup championships.
