On Saturday (Dec. 6), the country recognized the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women as it reflects the date (Dec. 6, 1989) when 14 women at the University of Montreal engineering school were killed in what's become known as the Montreal Massacre. Sheridan's President and CEO Dr. Jeff Zabudsky led Friday morning's ceremony at the Trafalgar Road campus, which was attended by approximately 50 people. "As much as today provides us with the opportunity to remember the worst tragedy on a post-secondary campus in Canadian history, it's also a time to talk about what more can be done to end violence in all its forms," Zabudsky said. Sheridan College commemorated the 25th anniversary of the murder of 14 women at L'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal Friday, one day in advance of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. "Despite our best intentions, violent acts still do occur," Zabudsky said as he discussed steps the college had taken to foster a climate of respect and inclusiveness.
