Returning mayor promises hospital contribution won't impact property taxes or electricity bills continued from p.4 Sean O'Meara and Ward 3 Town Councillor Nick Hutchins. Dave Gittings has also changed seats and is now the Ward 3 Town and Regional councillor. Hutchins is an entrepreneur and owner of a company that produces LED lighting systems used in roadways and airfields. The long-time active member of the Trafalgar Chartwell Residents Association has served on several local volunteer committees since moving to Oakville in 1984 and is looking to get to work on improving the downtown. "I think there are parking issues; I personally want to see the Town build the highrise on the Town property on Church (Street)," Hutchins said, noting he understands the need to build a consensus on council first. Prior to his candidacy, Hutchins authored several White Papers on a range of municipal issues in Oakville. O'Meara has also continued his election promise to have the Wyecroft Bridge put back on the Town's capital plan. Some preliminary discussions have already taken place between the councillor and Burton, as well as the Town's Chief Administrative Officer Ray Green. "I'm very optimistic that we're really going to get to work on it and I'm going to make sure I deliver on that as soon as possible," he said. New councillors vow action on downtown and Wyecroft bridge I can assure you that our contribution to the hospital's financing will have no impact on property taxes, or electricity bills. Burton said in his address that top-ofmind issues for council are protecting greenspace, further improvements to facilities, transportation and infrastructure and the revitalizing of the historic downtowns. The mayor also vowed that the Town's $130-million local share contribution to the new Oakville hospital -- approved by the previous council -- won't hit residents' pocketbooks. "I can assure you that our contribution to the hospital's financing will have no impact on property taxes, or electricity bills," Burton said.
