The shortlist of recipients was narrowed from 25 submissions by a panel of judges, based on innovation, viability, creativity and sustainability. Receiving innovation awards at the Oakville Conference Centre were Alphora Research Inc., ATSBiotech Inc., Cinema Suite Inc., GRTenergy Ltd., Maps BI Inc. and Rendezvous Mobile Inc. Alphora Research won for its pharmaceutical process improvement. ATSBiotech was recognized for Cool'n tape compression wraps. Cinema Suite earned kudos for the development of software tools used by video game, film and related industries. GRTenergy was in the spotlight for its leading-edge aerodynamic wind turbine blades. Maps BI was recognized for its data visualization software. Rendezvous Mobile received an award for an app that allows its users to find local events and nearby activities. All demonstrated excellence in product and process development or research. Sheridan College's executive advisor to the president, Ralph Benmergui, was the emcee for the evening and said recognizing innovation and entrepreneurship helps create a vibe where more people in the community will also want to contribute.
