Lyn and Jim Smith, Mr. Smith's parents, and his wife Carla made the announcement at Monday's celebration of Ontario Minister of Labour and Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn's 30 years of public service. Funds raised at the event will assist the Smith family in covering the costs of Avastin, which had helped slow the growth of a brain tumour Mr. Smith was diagnosed with in 2009. The 37-year-old, however, died Sunday morning. Mr. Smith suffered a massive seizure early Thursday and fell into a coma from which he did not awaken.
