Halton Regional Police wants to teach people about what they do, how and why. If you are interested in learning about subjects like the forensic identification, tactical and rescue or collision reconstruction units, fraud and identity theft prevention or are just curious about what it takes to become and what it's like to be a police officer, there is a free program that addresses those queries. The entity is called the Citizen Police Academy. It started in Halton in the spring of 2002 and it is usually offered twice a year with approximately 50 participants in each session. Halton police has places available for the next session of the academy. The program runs from 7-10 p.m. every Tuesday night for 12 weeks, between Jan. 20 and April 7, 2015. Each week participants are given presentations on various aspects of policing in Halton -- from recruiting, hostage negotiations, major crime investigations and diversity, to training, polygraph use, communications bureau and morality/drugs. The program is for anyone who wants know more about their local police service and policing in Canada. Preference is given to people who live or work, or own a business, in Halton.
