Routines also create a sense of s e c u r i t y . Children find it reassuring to rely on a fam il iar routine to help them through the rough spots in their day. T r a n s itio n s like leaving the house in the morning can be easier when a consistent rou tine tells a child what to do and what w ill hap pen next. Routines are especially help ful in teaching children to get along with oth ers and be ready to follow class room rules when they begin school. Children who are less pre dictable and more easily dis tracted may especially bene fit from routines to help them organize their behaviour. W hether it's taking turns at snack time or kissing grandma goodbye at the end of every visit, routines help a child organize his or her behavior and learn the appro priate things to do.
