"I would like to see the people consulted more," McIntee said, adding he'd ensure "the employment areas maintained as employment areas, and not new housing developments." Linda Nazareth said her priorities are "respecting tax dollars" as well as property values. An economist, Nazareth said from 2009-13, the average household in Oakville is paying 20 per cent more in taxes, and the size of govern- ment has resulted in a 23 per cent increase in salaries and benefits for Town employees. "That is not money that is serving you well," she said. "Let's not talk about keeping tax increases down, let's talk about cutting taxes or at least spending effectively." Nazareth also said if elected, she'd keep a blog of issues at Town council, and "not a Facebook page with people grinning at barbecues." In one of the last questions of the evening, Grant addressed the unease amongst candidates and the electorate over the mayor's endorsement of council in the early days of the campaign. "We got the endorsement, I don't agree with the way it came out, but I'm not going to dissuade anybody from saying it's a bad thing," Grant said.
