U.S. Terry Fox Run raises nearly $3K continued from p.10 Munro estimates there are approximately 100 Canadian students attending Harvard and close to 15 are full-time members of the Canadian Club. "Anybody though is welcome to join," he said. "We have several Americans from border towns, who feel half-Canadian." The majority of people, who participated in the first-ever Terry Fox run were Americans. There were also several international students from Ireland, Pakistan and Australia, as well as Harvard faculty members. In organizing the Terry Fox run, club members hung up posters throughout the campus and had introduction meetings. "It was really cool to not only see American students participating, but also students from other countries," Munro said. "It's really hard to get students to come out to events because there are so many things happening every weekend on campus. "So, for a first-year event, we're really happy with the results. Next year, it will be even better because now people know about it. We definitely want to make this an annual event and something Harvard students look forward to every year." Munro had to stage the event two weeks later than when the run is staged in Canada because he needed time to organize and get students involved. Most students arrived back at campus in early September. "As a board member of the Canadian Club, it's not only my job to bring the Canadian culture to Harvard but with my background being involved in cancer fundraising, I felt the Terry Fox run was a perfect event for my school," Munro said. "Nobody knew much about it but by the time we were ready there definitely was a buzz around campus. "The courage and selflessness that Terry Fox displayed in embarking on a trans-Canadian journey at the age of only 21 can only serve as an inspiration to young people at Harvard and around the world." #585 Leather Lined in Rustic Brown also available in Rustic Black 15 | Friday, October 3, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The River Oaks Association of Residents is hosting a Ward 5 allcandidates meeting Oct. 8.
