www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 18, 2014 | 34 New album is `a dream come true' for Anthony Tullo by Michael Gregory Oakville Beaver Staff Artscene "Connected to your Community" Oakville country rock musician Anthony Tullo is going coast-to-coast on Canadian airwaves with the new single Back that Truck Up, off his forthcoming album. "It's just one of those big country, edgy songs that just grabs you and you're just going `holy smokes' -- it just comes at you like a freight train," Tullo said. "It's not a song that you hear very often." The album is a mix of some of the 45-yearold's original works, as well as those written by the top songwriters in Nashville, Tenn., as well as Los Angeles. "Back that Truck Up, when I heard it, the lyrical content of that song was unbelievable," Tullo said. "When they said to me that they're giving me the right to sing it, it can be part of your album, I was overjoyed because I knew that this song was going to be a hit." The single will be on Tullo's upcoming album Switching Tracks. A release date is still being worked out, but will be available in the coming months. "I'm working on the album, I'm putting it together, it will be coming out afterwards," he said, adding that it was produced in Mississauga and Toronto. Tullo wanted to make sure every song he picked for the album "would be a hit." The "hook" in Back That Truck Up, he said, is "unbelievable." "I believe in great hooks and great lyrics and I think that's what makes the success of a song," he noted. Born-and-raised in Oakville, Tullo's decision for the album's title is reminiscent of the transition between his successful acting career Back that Truck Up, when I heard it, the lyrical content of that song was unbelievable... I believe in great hooks and great lyrics and I think that's what makes the success of a song.... A year-and-a-half later with a lot of hard work, and perseverance, I'm here and I've got the opportunity of a lifetime. I couldn't be more happy about this -- it's just a dream come true. "At this point in time, my music career is moving at a fast pace but my film is doing well too," he said when asked about choosing between one or the other. "I'm just taking it as it comes and I'm just excited." Tullo recorded a song for the award-winning film The Secret Cross, a physiological thriller that he also wrote, directed and acts in as the lead male role. "Everyone was telling me if you can write another nine or 10 songs like this one (for The Secret Cross), that's incredible," Tullo said. "A year-and-a-half later with a lot of hard work, and perseverance, I'm here and I've got the opportunity of a lifetime. "I couldn't be more happy about this -- it's just a dream come true." Backing Tullo's single and album is music promoter Linda Dawe, who helped launch the careers of Roch Voisine, Rita MacNeil as well as Blue Rodeo's 1987 chart-topping ballad Try. "The key to having the opportunity to be able to launch a song is to have somebody with a track record believe in you and sign you on," he said. With a whirlwind few weeks ahead, promoting his single, Tullo will be performing Nov. 1 at the Birchmount Country Tavern and Nov. 7 at Chick N Deli, both Toronto venues. "There's a lot of hype on this song... and I'm excited to see how it does and in four months time I'll be shooting out another single for sure," he said.
