The direction that regional council would like the police budget to take was the topic of discussion at a recent Halton Regional Police Service's board meeting. It was pointed out that last month, Halton council voted to have the regional budget prepared with the goal of tax increases being kept at or below in ation (1.9 per cent). Councillors also voted to direct groups funded by Halton Region, including Halton police, Royal Botanical Gardens and Conservation Halton, to follow similar guidelines. Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner said the service would keep that goal in mind, but noted there is a lot to consider in putting the budget together. see Chief on p.18 Patrick Channing is pictured with his ancée Elizabeth Hill, who was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 21. A report from Mayor Rob Burton and Chief Administrative Of cer Ray Green was presented at Town Council and sets March 2016 as the intended vacant possession date of the 14-acre Reynolds Street property. The report to council also reaf rmed the Town's $130-million portion of the local share plan, and noted residents' property taxes won't be going up as a result. The Town's commitment could be funded through its $40-million special dividend from Oakville Hydro's sale of Blink Communications. Burton told the Beaver in March that the sale of Blink netted the Town "big chunk" of the Town contribution. The balance, up to an additional $90 million, will be debentured and the associated carrying costs funded by hydro's special dividends. see New on p.4
