At approximately 3:30 p.m., Halton police and re ghters were called after a passerby noticed smoke coming from a residence in the northwest Oakville neighbourhood. The re was quickly brought under control. However, the body of an adult woman was discovered at the scene. "We don't suspect foul play," Halton Police Det. Paul Davies told the Oakville Beaver. "The re was contained to the area of the body. There was no real damage to the house," said the ofcer. At the scene, Oakville Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn con rmed a body had been found and that no one else was in the single-family residence at the time of the re.
