With a few hours a week, training over a six-month peri od. virtually any person, regardless of age or current fitness level can train to finish a marathon. The program trains runners and walkers of all ability levels through tailored coaching, including beginners and non-runnersAvalkers, to finish a marathon or a half marathon. Members from all three programs w ill target their training to complete a full or a half marathon. The benefits he said extend beyond the con venience to the club's competitors and to the prestige it brings to the club. The club, he said, encourages both its recreational and its up and coming competitive athletes to come out. "They get to watch some of the provincial level athletes do their stuff, you can kind of see their wide eyed expres sion and loose jaw expression and I think that's what really motivates them to move up and become a provincial ath lete." The club has seen a huge growth in the number of boys that are now involved in the gymnastics program, to the point where they're about 25 per cent of the club member ship. And in recognition of this. Hussey said the club hopes to soon bring the boys provincial championship to Oakville. Head coach Andrew Deslippe said he wouldn't be sur prised to see an Oakville competitor end up on the podium this weekend. "The potential is definitely there for all four of them."
