The 71-year-old Bronte resident said the courses, especially Writing for Children -- The Ultimate Challenge, encouraged her to try her hand at writing a story for children in her retirement. The result is Hidden Treasures -- A Story of Church Bells, published by Victoria-based self-publishing company FriesenPress. Inspired by a tour of several large churches in Toronto she took with St. Paul's United Church two years ago, Copland said the book is based on the intrigue children on the tour showed while exploring the Metropolitan United Church's carillon. Copland, who is a former teacher and teacher assistant with the Halton District School Board, launched the 24-page book last month at St. Paul's United Church women's group meeting where she was a guest speaker. She told the Oakville Beaver she is elated about publishing her first book. It has encouraged her to continue writing. Copland has also already submitted her second manuFay Copland script to FriesenPress and hopes to have the adult book called Skint Knees -- Reflections on a Scottish Childhood out later this year. Hidden Treasures -- A Story of Church Bells is available for $10 by emailing Copland at faycopland@yahoo.ca., or for $11.99 at Friesenpress.com. It is also available for purchase on the Chapters Indigo and Amazon websites by visiting www.chapters.indigo. ca and www.amazon.ca, respectively. Don't miss these, and other great deals!
