www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, July 9, 2014 | 12 Middle frame friendly to Titans in pair of wins Strong second periods keyed a pair of victories last weekend for the Oakville Titans in Ontario Lacrosse Association senior B play. Oakville scored five straight middle-frame markers Friday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre en route to an 11-6 win over the Six Nations Rivermen. The following night in Sarnia, the Titans outscored the host Beavers 6-0 in the second period to erase a 7-4 deficit, eventually winning 11-10. The two wins improved Oakville's record to 6-8. The Titans' 12 points ranks fourth in the seven-team league, two points ahead of the fifth-place Owen Sound North Stars, as the regular season nears its conclusion. Todd Kozak scored three goals for the Titans Friday while AJ Masson and Brad Gillies contributed two goals and two assists each. Sean Gillies and Gage Board both had a goal and two helpers, with Luke Laszkiewicz and Jeff Sehl adding single tallies in support of winning netminder Mike Cregan. Kozak scorched the Beavers for eight points (four goals, four assists) Saturday in Sarnia, and Laszkiewicz had two goals and three assists -- his second goal coming with 5:10 remaining in regulation time to snap a 10-10 deadlock. Brad Gillies (two goals, two assists) and Connor Latimer (goal, three assists) had four points apiece.' Josh Gilray and Dylan Gilbert also scored, and Jay Preece earned the victory in net. The Titans will conclude the regular season this weekend with a pair of home games, both 7 p.m. starts at Glen Abbey. Oakville will be home to the Beavers Saturday, then host the first-place Ennismore James Gang Sunday. The Sudbury author was at the Central branch of the Oakville Public Library Saturday for a launch promoting Solo, Yet Never Alone: Swimming the Great Lakes, a book that describes swimmers who have swum across the large lakes in southern Ontario. Featured in the book are LOST swimmers Rob Kent, Madhu Nagaraja and Melanie Price, who all have their own individual chapters. Price successfully crossed Lake Ontario from Port Dalhousie to Oakville in 2011, and Kent and Nagaraja followed suit the next year. Among the other subjects interviewed for the book include Marilyn Bell (the first person to swim across Lake Ontario, 60 years ago) and Vicki Keith (the first to swim across all five Great Lakes, doing so in a two-month period). Many LOST swimmers attended Saturday's launch after their regular two-hour swim in Lake Ontario. The launch included a panel discussion and an audience question-and-answer period about the challenges of swimming the Great Lakes. Rebekah Boscariol, 19, also attended the launch. Boscariol crossed Lake Ontario from Niagara-On-The-Lake to Toronto in 2011 and will attempt another crossing later this summer. Buzz to face Akwesasne in Round 2 The Oakville Buzz advanced to Round 2 of the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B playoffs with an 11-9 win Saturday in Newmarket. A preview of the Buzz`s second-round series against Akwesasne will appear in tomorrow's (Thursday's) edition of the Beaver. 905-845-3824 ext. 283 ahowe@oakvillebeaver.com LAWN CARE POOL SERVICE Quality Service and Repair at Reasonable Prices you grow · we mow Call Alycia at www.lawnbros.ca Professional Services 21 years experience over 1000 liners installed!
