The event gave Oakville and Halton riding constituents an opportunity to hear their local candidates speak on a variety of issues ahead of voting in the June 12 provincial election. It was hosted by the Oakville Chamber of Com- merce, in partnership with The Oakville Beaver , Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board, TVCogeco, and Glen Abbey United Church. Prior to the gathering, the Chamber received a number of questions from its members, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the general public. One of the questions that created a stir for candidates dealt with their party's rst response to preventing Oakville as the location of the now-cancelled gas- red power plant, as opposed to after-the-fact. While the NDP weren't privy to what was hap- pening "behind closed doors," Oakville candidate Che Marville said the party did agree with the Liberal government that "we had to end our addiction to fossil fuels." "What was the planning that went into making the contract and making that decision about putting a gas plant 15 minutes away from a family community?" asked Marville. Oakville and Liberal incumbent Kevin Flynn noted this was the second power plant cancelled locally. see Debate on p.7 Sunday, June 1, 11:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca St. Join us for healthy, fun and FREE activities for the whole family! ymcaofoakville.org
